Best Parks in Milwaukee

Milwaukee County is home to more than 150 parks, 14 golf courses, miles and miles of trails, beaches, beer gardens, and dog parks. There are tons of natural spaces to enjoy in Milwaukee, and that is just one of many reasons Milwaukee is a beautiful place to call home.

Lake Park

Lake Park is easily one of Milwaukee’s best parks and one of the oldest, built-in 1889. It shares its designer with Central Park in New York City, Frederick Law Olmsted, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A real gem, this park is a must-visit for all in Milwaukee. Lake Park includes a golf course, soccer, tennis, a softball diamond, and a native-plant community. Easy beach access and excellent walking and running trails are just two of the many things this great park offers.

Bradford Beach

Arguably the most popular beach in Milwaukee, and with good reason, Bradford Beach, your destination for fun in the sun on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. Here you can play beach volleyball, go birdwatching for one of the over 200 migratory bird species that pass through, swim in Lake Michigan, or relax in the sand and work on your tan.

Whitnall Park

Milwaukee County’s largest park, Whitnall Park, is located in Greendale. Whitnall park has activities for everyone, including a beer garden with 24 craft beers on tap, the most popular golf course in Milwaukee County, and a nature center with over five miles of trails on 220 acres.

Estabrook Park

Located in the Shorewood neighborhood of Milwaukee on the east bank of the Milwaukee River, Estabrook Park is home to an 18-hole disc golf course, Milwaukee’s only public outdoor skatepark, a beer garden, volleyball, a soccer field, dog park, and trails.

Atwater Park

Further north on the shoreline of Lake Michigan, you can find scenic Atwater Park. Home to some of Lake Michigan’s best views and public art among great walking trails, this might just be your new favorite park in Milwaukee. Come for the swimming, stay for the sunset.   

Washington Park

Wednesdays are the best days at Washington Park, where every Wednesday in the summer features live music and food trucks along with activities for the whole family. Washington Park also shares its designer with Lake Park and Central Park, Frederick Law Olmsted. The park is also home to the Urban Ecology Center and a large lagoon.
